Jillian Rae Ludwig, my beloved niece, was a talented and kind young woman whose passion for music and community touched countless lives. Tragically, at just 18, she passed away on November 8, 2023, after being struck by a stray bullet while jogging near her college campus in Nashville, TN. She is deeply missed by all who knew her.
Jillian excelled in music from an early age, playing multiple instruments and performing around the Jersey Shore. She created “Playing it Forward” to raise funds for those in need in the music community. To honor her memory, her parents started the Rae of Light Foundation, and tee shirts are being sold to raise money for the charity and continue her legacy of giving back. 100% of proceeds from these sales will be donated to her foundation.
I created the artwork for these tee shirts with the hope that it would one day become a mural in her honor. That dream has since come to life — the wings from this design are now painted as a mural on the side of The Committed Pig in Manasquan, NJ, where Jill once worked.
The artwork was inspired by Jillian’s love of the ocean, animals, flowers, and, most of all, music — capturing her spirit beautifully. The new tee shirts feature Jill on the front, playing her guitar, with her angel wings behind her — the same wings that now brighten our town as a mural.
